Average speed cameras will begin enforcing a 30mph speed limit on the M74 in South Lanarkshire for several months.
The temporary enforcement is in force between junctions 9 and 11 of the motorway during a bridge refurbishment project.
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are undertaking the major bridge works at the Nethan Viaduct, south of junction 10 at Lesmahagow; and the five phase work will include waterproofing, concrete repairs, resurfacing, strengthening and barrier upgrades.
It means that a two-lane contraflow in each direction will be in place until the end of April, as traffic speeds are halved due to the use of the narrowed temporary lane set-up.
During this time Temporary Average Speed Cameras at Roadworks (TASCAR) systems will be enforcing the temporary speed limits for the safety of road users and road workers.
The work began on Tuesday, October 1, and run until Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
A statement from Amey said: “To ensure the safety of road users and roadworkers during essential maintenance on M74 Nethan Viaduct, Lesmahagow, Junction 9 to Junction 11, a decision was taken to implement a 30mph speed limit, in consultation with Traffic Scotland, Amey, Sub-Contractors and other operational stakeholders.”
