Train journeys between Glasgow and London have been cancelled after a tree fell on the track.
Passengers on the overnight Caledonian Sleeper service were informed in the early hours of Tuesday that the train had not departed from Glasgow Central.
The fallen tree has blocked the line overnight between Carstairs and Lockerbie, leaving hundreds of travellers facing disruption.
Ticket holders have been advised that they can travel on alternative services on the east coast rail line for no extra cost, or they can claim a refund.
A statement from Avanti West Coast said: “Due to damage to the overhead electric wires between Lockerbie and Carstairs, all lines are blocked.
“Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed. Please check your journey.”
Network Rail confirmed that repairs are ongoing and expect the line to reopen from 11.30am.
A spokesperson added: “Overnight, we’ve been dealing with damage to the overhead wires on the West Coast Main Line between Carstairs and Lockerbie.
“Repairs are ongoing, but we expect the line to be closed until at least 11.30am. We’ll share more news soon.”
Network Rail also confirmed that the Aberdeen to Inverness railway line is closed because of a fallen tree between Dyce and Kintore.
ScotRail said train tickets were being accepted on Stagecoach services while Aberdeen and Inverurie services were suspended.
A spokesperson said: “We’re dealing with a fallen tree that’s blocking the Aberdeen-Inverness railway between Dyce and Kintore. Our team are on their way and we’ll share another update soon.”
