A 30-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after being attacked by three men with weapons in Renfrewshire.
Police have launched an attempted murder investigation into the attack, which happened in Paisley at around 6.35pm on Wednesday night.
The man was walking alongside another man on Henderson Street, near to the junction with Brown Street, when three men jumped out from a close and attacked him with weapons.
The suspects, who were all white and wearing dark clothing, ran off from the scene. Police say members of the public came to the aid of the victim and called emergency services.
The victim was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment to serious head injuries. Medical staff describe his condition as serious but stable.
Detective Inspector Ian Ross from Paisley CID said: “From enquiries carried out so far, we believe this may have been a pre-planned and targeted attack on the victim, which has left him with serious injuries.
“The incident happened in a busy residential area, with lots of flats overlooking the street, and it is likely that people will have witnessed what happened.
“I am appealing for anyone who was nearby and saw the assault take place, or noticed anything at all suspicious, to please get in touch.
