A man has been charged with attempted murder after a 28-year-old was allegedly slashed near a nursery in Kilmarnock.

The injured man was taken to hospital after the incident in the Riccarton area of the East Ayrshire town on Saturday evening.

He made his way to a flat in Jeffrey Street after he was allegedly attacked near a nursery school in Craigie Road.

Police said a 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following the incident.

He is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Thursday.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “A 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged attempted murder of a 28-year-old man in Jeffrey Street, Riccarton, Kilmarnock on Saturday, May 2.

“He is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Thursday. A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

“Officers would like to thank the public for their assistance during this enquiry.”
