A man has been left seriously injured following an alleged brawl in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Another man has been arrested in connection with the incident that took place in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire on Saturday.

Police were called to the scene at around 5.45am after reports of a “large scale” disturbance in Dean Crescent.

Emergency services arrived shortly after and the injured 35-year-old was taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment to a head wound.

A 37-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released pending further enquires.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said : “Officers were called to reports of a large scale disturbance which resulted in a man suffering serious injuries at Dean Crescent, Hamilton about 5.45am on Saturday. 

“The 35-year-old man was taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment. 

“A 37-year-old man was arrested and released pending further enquiries.”
