A Royal Navy bomb squad were called in after police discovered a “suspicious item” in a car in Glasgow.

A 57-year-old man was arrested following a disturbance on Bellrock Street, Cranhill, at around 8.30pm on Tuesday.

Officers searched a car on Loretto Street nearby and called in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit who made the device “safe”.

Police Scotland is still investigating.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 57-year-old man has been arrested following a disturbance in Bellrock Street, Cranhill, Glasgow, to which police were called last night Tuesday, August 24, 2021 around 8.30pm.

“As part of enquiries, officers searched a car in nearby Loretto Street. As a precaution, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit attended and a suspicious item found within the car was made safe.

“Enquiries into the incident are continuing.”
