Detectives have closed down Canal Street, Saltcoats, as they investigate the murder of Alan Lawson.

Armed police have locked down a street in North Ayrshire as part of a murder investigation.

Detectives launched an investigation following the death of Alan Lawson on Tuesday, February 6.

The 36-year-old died in hospital after being assaulted at a property on Alexander Avenue in Largs over the weekend of Saturday, February 3.

Following initial enquiries police believe the assault was a “targeted attack”.

On Wednesday afternoon, armed officers sealed off Canal Street in Saltcoats.

Police Scotland confirmed the incident was in relation to the ongoing probe into the alleged murder of Alan Lawson.

Officers are understood to have been on scene for more than two hours.

A Police Scotland Spokesperson confirmed: “The police activity is related to the ongoing investigation into the murder of Alan Lawson in Saltcoats”

An update from the force at around 4pm confirmed the operation had “concluded” and enquiries remain ongoing.
