Police have launched a CCTV appeal after a woman’s handbag was snatched in Airdrie.

The theft occurred in Central Park, Kirkness Street at around 9am on Saturday.

A 68-year-old woman was walking when she was approached from behind and her handbag was snatched.

Officers are now searching for a man described as around 5ft 7ins tall with short, dark-coloured hair, who was wearing white jogging trousers and a green jacket.

He was last seen running along Frew Street.

Detective constable Billy Murray said: “Luckily the woman wasn’t injured but she is badly shaken as a result of this robbery.

“I would appeal to anyone in the area who saw anything suspicious or may have seen the suspect running holding the woman’s bag to contact us as soon as possible.”
