Police have launched an investigation into a ‘wilful’ fire at a derelict school in Kilmarnock.

Emergency services were alerted at around 6.30pm on Sunday, May 14, when a building was set on fire on Grougar Road at Milton Road.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the blaze and no one was injured as a result, but the building suffered “extensive” damage.

Police are treating the incident as wilful fire-raising.

Detective constable Paul Gartland, Kilmarnock CID, said: “We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen people at the building between 6.15pm and 6.40pm.

“We are also keen to speak to drivers who were on the road between those times who may have dash-cam footage as they may have captured footage that may help our enquiry.”

Any information can be passed to officers via 101 quoting reference number 3189 of Sunday, May 14 2023. Alternatively, details can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
