Two cats were discovered by a member of the public on Monday, in Bellshill, inside a Morrisons freezer bag.

An appeal has been launched after a cat was found dead in a Morrisons bag in North Lanarkshire.

A cat was found ditched in a carrier in the parking area near Coatbridge Police Station on Saturday, and a further two cats were discovered by a member of the public on Monday at Hattonrigg Road, in Bellshill, inside a Morrisons freezer bag.

Both of them were found in “thin body conditions” and one of them had died.

The other cat requires veterinary treatment.

Officers for the animal charity are urging anyone with any information to come forward.

A Scottish SPCA Inspector said: “We were called to the Police Station at Coatbridge after officers found a cat abandoned across the road from the station.

“The male tabby and white cat was in good body condition and was found within a black cat carrier. He is not microchipped.

“The cat is now receiving care and attention from our staff at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres.

“Two tabby and white cats were found in a Morrison’s freezer bag in Bellshill. One had sadly died and the other requires veterinary treatment.

“Both are in thin body conditions.

“We would urge anyone unable to care for their pets to contact our confidential animal helpline for support and advice.
