Police are appealing for drivers who witnessed a fatal crash involving a pedestrian and a lorry to come forward.
Emergency services were called to around half a mile east of Newhouse Junction, Junction 6, after receiving reports of an injured man around 12.40pm on Thursday.
A 52-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The male driver of a white Volvo HGV, which was also involved, was not injured.
The road was closed in both directions to allow investigations to be carried out. It reopened around 6pm on Thursday.
Police are now appealing for any drivers who witnessed the crash or vehicles involved shortly before the incident to come forward.
Sergeant Gemma Blackadder said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died and to all involved in this incident. I would like to thank the members of the public that stopped and assisted at the scene before emergency services arrived.
“We are continuing to carry out enquiries and I would like to appeal to anyone who has not already spoken to us and may have witnessed the crash, or the vehicles involved shortly before the incident, to please contact us.
“In addition, anyone with dash-cam footage is asked to get in touch as this may be able to assist our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1560 of 28 August, 2025.
