A police investigation has been launched after a cyclist suffered a serious head injury after coming off his bike in a North Lanarkshire street.

The incident happened on Seafar Road in Cumbernauld, near to the junction with Dowanfield Road, at around 12.10am on Saturday.

The 42-year-old man was travelling southbound when he fell off his grey Cannondale mountain bike.

Emergency services attended and he was taken by ambulance to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with a serious head injury.

The road was closed for around four hours for investigation works.

Sergeant Roy McCarney said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and haven’t already spoken to officers to come forward.

“We are also appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and who has dashcam footage or any other information which may assist to get in touch.”
