Appeal after abandoned dog found tied to park bench

Rocky the Staffordshire bull terrier was found dumped in Hamilton with a chronic skin condition.

An appeal has been launched after a dog was found tied to a park bench in South Lanarkshire.

The Scottish SPCA rescued the abandoned Staffordshire bull terrier after a member of the public discovered him “shaking and in distress” in Bothwell Park in Hamilton.

The dog, who is called Rocky, was also found with a chronic skin condition and staff at the animal welfare charity said if it had been left untreated any longer he wouldn’t have been able to recover.

Animal rescue officer Dawn-Vale Juma said, “A concerned member of the public came in to our centre in February to report a dog tied up in the park.

“We immediately responded and found him tied to a bench. He was shaking and clearly in distress.

“We took him to the vet where they found he had a chronic skin complaint.

“From his microchip, we’ve been able to find out his name is Rocky and that he is five years old.

“The address on the chip is registered to an address in England. We’ve spoken to the previous owner who has been very cooperative.

“We have no idea how long he had been left tied up in the park.

“Rocky is a gorgeous boy and is very friendly.
