American schoolgirl who disappeared during city centre visit found Police Scotland

An urgent search was launched for an American schoolgirl who disappeared from her parents’ view on Glasgow’s Buchanan Street.

Anekah Wissinger, 14, was in Scotland visiting family in the Inverclyde area when she went missing on Tuesday.

Shortly before 10am on Wednesday, police announced the US national had been found “safe and well”.

A spokesperson for the force thanked the public for their help in sharing the appeal.

Having travelled into Glasgow’s city centre, Anekah was last seen near Buchanan Galleries around 3.15pm when she left her parents to buy some food from a nearby store.

She was described as a white female, 5ft 7in tall, average build with long bleached blonde hair with dark roots and green/blue tips.

Anekah was wearing a yellow cardigan, a black top, light blue jeans, black and white trainers.

Police Scotland had said concerns were growing for Anekah because she is unfamiliar with the local area and has failed to make any contact with family since the time last seen.

Anyone with any information was asked to call Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 2695 of January 18, 2022.
