Four teens and pensioner in hospital after bus and car collision

Two men aged 18 and 72 and three teenage girls, two aged 16 and one 17-year-old, were rushed to hospital by ambulance.

Five people are in hospital following a multi-vehicle crash on a major road in East Kilbride on Wednesday night.

At around 10.30pm on August 16, emergency services were called to a report of the crash on the A725 Kingsway near the Birniehill roundabout in the town.

The collision involved three cars and a bus.

Two men aged 18 and 72 and three teenage girls, two aged 16 and one 17-year-old, were rushed to hospital by ambulance.

The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

The A725 road is closed in both directions between the Whitemoss and Birniehill roundabouts while crash investigations are carried out.

On Thursday morning, police urged drivers to avoid the area.

Diversions are in place while the road is closed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.30pm on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 we were called to a report of a crash involving three cars and a bus on the A725, Kingsway, East Kilbride near the Birniehill Roundabout. 

“Emergency services attended. Five people, two men aged 18 and 72, and three females, two aged 16 and a 17-year-old, were taken by ambulance to hospital. 

“The A725 remains closed between the Whitemoss and Birniehill Roundabouts while crash investigations are carried out.”
