Thousands of residents in Glasgow faced a morning without water due to a valve fault.

Shortly after 7.30am on Tuesday, Scottish Water announced it was working to investigate the problem following complaints in the north side of the city in the G12, G20 and G61 areas.

In an update an hour later, Scottish Water revealed the additional postcode areas of G23, G41, G43, G44 and G62 were also reporting interruption to their supplies.

While an investigation took place, customers were warned to expect no water or low/intermittent water pressure in addition to discolouration.

A Scottish Water spokesperson apologised for the inconvenience.

Water eventually began to filter through after the fault was fixed in Milngavie and by 11am the majority of supplies had been restored to properties.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: "Normal water supplies are being restored in parts of the Glasgow area which have been affected by a fault on a control valve this morning.

"Engineers quickly resolved the fault on a valve in Milngavie and are now restoring normal supplies to affected properties.

"However, it could take some time before normal pressure is restored to all affected properties.

"We estimate that several thousand properties have been affected, mainly in the north-west of the city and in some parts of the south-side.

"We apologise for the inconvenience and thank affected customers for their patience and understanding."
