The body of an 80-year-old man was found inside Glasgow Central Mosque.
The Mosque paid tribute to Mohammed Yusuf, an elderly member of the congregation, and asked for his family to be given “time and space to come to terms with their loss”.
Officers were called to the place of worship in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Mr Yusuf’s death is not thought to be suspicious.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “At around 3.40am this morning, police received a report of an 80-year-old man’s body being found within Central Mosque in Gorbals Glasgow.
“A post-mortem will take place in due course to establish the exact circumstances of the death, which is currently not being treated as suspicious.”
A Glasgow Central Mosque spokesperson added: “In the early hours of this morning, an elderly member of our congregation, Mohammed Yusuf, was found in the Mosque, having passed away.
“We thank the emergency services for their prompt response and handling of the incident.
“Police Scotland have confirmed that the circumstances of our dear Mr Yusuf’s passing aren’t suspicious.
“We request the family be given time and space to come to terms with their loss.”
