The body of a man who disappeared over two months ago has been discovered in a river.

William Miller, 62, was last seen on Main Street in Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, at about 12.20am on Thursday January 7.

A major search was launched for Mr Miller and police appealed to the public for help after his disappearance.

Officers in kayaks previously searched the River Leven in a bid to find him and proved unsuccessful. However, on Thursday his body was finally recovered from the river.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "On Thursday March 17, the body of a man was recovered from the River Leven near to Vale of Leven Industrial Estate.

"The man has been formally identified as William Miller and his relatives are aware.

"A post mortem examination will take place in due course, however there would appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

"A full report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
