A Scot who died after an altercation at a caravan in Cumbria has been named by police.

Robert William Gordon, 47, from Kilmarnock, was injured in the incident at the Stanwix Park Holiday Centre at Silloth on Saturday.

He was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary but died on Sunday afternoon. He suffered the injuries during a disturbance occurred between 1.45am and 2.45am.

Police said another 47-year-old man, from Silloth, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent before being bailed to return to Workington Police Station at a later date.

A statement from Cumbria Constabulary said: "Police can confirm that a man who died following an altercation at the Stanwix Park Holiday Centre has been identified as Robert William Gordon, 47, Kilmarnock.

"The death followed an incident that occurred between 1.45am and 2.45am on March 12 at the Silloth site.

"A 47-year-old man from Kilmarnock was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary and was pronounced dead on March 13 2016. Officers are supporting his family at this difficult time and the Coroner has been informed.

"Police are investigating the circumstances of his death and enquiries are ongoing.
