A man from Kilmarnock has died following an altercation at a caravan park in Cumbria.

The 47 year old was critically injured in the incident at the Stanwix Park Holiday Centre at Silloth on Saturday.

He was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary but died on Sunday afternoon. The injuries followed an incident that occurred between 1.45am and 2.45am on Saturday 12 March at the Silloth site.

A Cumbria Police spokesperson said: “Officers are supporting his family at this difficult time and the Coroner has been informed.”

Police said a 47-year-old man from Silloth who was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent has been bailed to return to Workington Police Station at a later date.
