Two people entered the River Clyde on Friday night in an effort to rescue a woman who was seen falling into the water.

Despite their efforts, and that of emergency services, the woman has not been traced.

Police, fire and coastguard teams were called to the scene at around 7.40pm on Friday.

The police helicopter and a boat were used in the search, which is understood to have begun near the Grosvenor Casino before moving downriver towards the Clyde Arc bridge.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police and emergency services responded to reports of a woman in the River Clyde close to the Broomielaw .

“The police helicopter attended and emergency services searched the water, however the woman was not traced.

“Two members of the public attempted to rescue the woman by entering the water and they are both safe and well.

“The woman believed to have entered the water is still to be identified and confirmed by police.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
