A primary school in East Dunbartonshire has been hit with a norovirus outbreak.

Some 56 pupils at Clober Primary in KIrk Street, Milngavie, began exhibiting symptoms of the winter vomiting bug

Text alerts were sent to parents and carers on Wednesday urging them to take precautions. It is advised any child who appears to be struck down with the virus, which causes severe vomiting and diarrhoea, should be kept at home for at least 48 hours.

A deep clean of the premises will be undertaken overnight to prevent the spread of infection.

East Dunbartonshire Council director of education and children's services Gordon Currie said: "There has been an outbreak of the Norovirus at Clober Primary School in Milngavie and 56 pupils were off school today with Norovirus symptoms.

A text alert has been sent to parents/carers to advise them of the outbreak and that if their child exhibits any symptoms they are to be kept at home for 48 hours.
