A neglected dog was found starving and tied to railings after being abandoned outside a vets.

The German shepherd, who has been named Lucy, was found dumped outside the veterinary surgery in Glasgow overnight on Sunday.

She was discovered tied to railings on a short leash on Monday morning by staff at Ashley Vet Centre in Anniesland Road.

They checked her over and found that she was badly dehydrated and was suffering from a skin condition. Lucy is now being looked after by the Scottish SPCA.

Rachael Krieger, who works at the veterinary surgery, said: "We came in on the Monday and found Lucy tied up to a railing outside.

"She couldn't move very well at all and was clearly in pain. She was really dehydrated and her coat and skin were in a bit of a mess.

"We took her in and she stayed with us for the day to get checked up and fed and watered.

"Lucy was in a pretty bad way, especially her coat. She clearly had an untreated skin condition - it was pretty upsetting.

"We took her to Clydebank Police Station and she's now being looked after by the Scottish SPCA."

A Scottish SPCA spokeswoman said: "This dog is underweight and is suffering from a severe infection in both her ears.

"She is very poorly and is currently under veterinary supervision at our rescue centre in Glasgow.

"If anyone has information about who this dog belonged to we would urge them to contact Police Scotland or our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999."
