A man has appeared in court charged with having two cans of "American-style NATO pepper spray" at Glasgow Airport.

Jack Wilcox, 23, pleaded not guilty to two charges in relation to the alleged possession of the firearms when he appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Wilcox, from Edinburgh, denies breaching a section of the Firearms Act 1968 by being in possession of "two American style NATO pepper sprays designed or adapted for the discharge of a noxious liquid gas or other thing namely Capsaican/pepper".

Prosecutors claim he was in possession of the prohibited weapon on July 7 last year without the authority of the secretary of state.

He also faces a second charge of breaking the Customs and Excise Management Act 1979 by knowingly being concerned in the fraudulent evasion of the prohibition on the importation of goods imposed under by Section 5(1)(b) of the Firearms Act.

Sheriff Tom Ward adjourned the case until May for a trial to take place and scheduled a pre-trial hearing for April.
