A yellow "be aware" warning for heavy rain has been issued for large parts of Scotland, with gale force winds also expected.

The heavy showers are expected to last throughout Sunday and into Sunday night in the southern and western regions of Scotland.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (Sepa) also issued flood warnings for parts of the Tayside region. Coastal areas and bridges could see gusts of up to 65mph, the Met Office warned.

The Forth Road Bridge was closed to all high-sided vehicles as winds exceeded 50mph.

Parts of the UK are also bracing themselves for Storm Imogen, which is expected to hit southern England and Wales on Monday.

The Met Office said: "Showers or longer spells of rain will affect much of southern and western Scotland during Sunday and into Sunday night.

"The rain will be accompanied by gale force west to southwesterly winds during daylight Sunday, with gusts of 45-55 mph quite widely, perhaps 60-65 mph over exposed coasts and bridges.

"Please be aware of some difficult driving conditions due to standing water and spray, and perhaps localised surface water flooding."

Gusts of 80mph are expected in some coastal districts as part of Storm Imogen, with large waves on the Cornwall in Devon coasts.

However there is uncertainty over how far north the strong winds will extend.
