A date has been set for a public inquiry into the death of a young man who fell ill in police custody.

Antony Storrie, 26, was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley shortly after being arrested in the town's Townhead Terrace in July 2013. Medical staff tried to save him but he died a short time later.

A probe was then launched by watchdog the Police Investigation and Review Commissioner (Pirc) after the case was referred to them. It is understood Mr Storrie had been taking legal highs before he was arrested.

A fatal accident inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death has now been set. A preliminary hearing will be heard at Paisley Sheriff Court at the end of February with the full inquiry to begin on May 9.

A statement said: "The Sheriff of North Strathclyde at Paisley will hold a preliminary hearing on February 23 2016 at 10am and an inquiry on May 9 2016 at 10am within the Sheriff Court House at St James Street, Paisley into the circumstances of the death of Antony Scott Fisher Storrie."

A spokeswoman for Pirc said at the time: "We can confirm that Antony Storrie was in police custody and taken immediately to the Royal Alexandra Hospital following concerns about his well-being, where he later died."
