Emergency services have been called to the scene of a four-car crash in Renfrewshire.

The collision happened at around 7.15am on Thursday on the eastbound carriageway of the A737 road near Johnstone.

Two drivers, a 25-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, were taken by ambulance to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for slight injuries.

Police confirmed they were each issued with six penalty notices for alleged road traffic offences.

The other two drivers, a man and a woman, escaped unhurt and were not given any penalty notices.

The road was partially closed for more than an hour, leading to heavy traffic on the approach to the M8.

The Trunk Road Incident Support Service also attended the scene and the road was reopened at 8.30am
