A driver and two passengers were injured after a car careered off the road and ploughed into the front garden of a house.

The Vauxhall Corsa came off the road and landed in a garden in Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, in the early hours of Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Glasgow Road at around 4.45am.

Paramedics treated an 18-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car at the scene.

A 21-year-old man, also a passenger, was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment to serious injuries.

The driver, a 26 year-old man, was initially taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and later transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries.

Both remain in hospital in a serious but stable condition. No one else was injured.

Sergeant Stuart Bell, of the Trunk Road Policing Group at Glasgow, said: "Inquiries are at an early stage to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and witnessed the crash to get in touch.

"Anyone with information is urged to contact police at the Road Policing Complex at Govan on 101."
