An 88-year-old driver and her 93-year-old passenger are seriously injured in hospital after crashing into a bollard.

The two elderly women, who were in a Vauxhall Corsa, were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after the incident on the A814 Dumbarton Road near Hall Street in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, on Sunday at around 5.40pm. Both remain in a serious condition.

Constable Hugh Niccolls, of the Divisional Road Policing Unit in Dumbarton, said: "This was a serious incident which resulted in two elderly woman requiring hospital treatment.

"We are still trying to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. Anyone who witnessed the collision in asked to contact officers at the divisional road policing unit in Dumbarton via the 101 number."
