A man who died after his car collided with a lorry has been named by police.

Kevan Smith, 45, died at the scene of the crash in Ayrshire on Wednesday, while the 36-year-old male driver of the HGV and trailer escaped uninjured.

The incident happened on the A71 close to Dreghorn, North Ayrshire, at around 8.50pm between the Warrix Interchange and Corsehillmount roundabout.

Police named Mr Smith, from Kilwinning, and released a picture of him on Tuesday.

A statement from Police Scotland: "The deceased can now be named as 45-year-old Kevan Smith from Kilwinning.

"Around 8.50pm on Wednesday, Mr Smith was driving a blue coloured Ford Focus car east on the A71 when it collided with a red-coloured HGV and trailer between the Warrix Interchange and Corsehillmount roundabout near Dreghorn."

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
