A six-year-old boy knocked down in a hit-and-run has left hospital as his father continues to fight for life.

Ryan McLean, 31, and his son Logan were struck by a private hire taxi outside a social club in Lanarkshire in the early hours of Sunday.

It is understood they were hit on outside Rutherglen's Glencairn Social Club after leaving a family wedding reception at around 12.15am.

Emergency services attended and both victims were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Staff described the Mr McLean's injuries as life threatening. He remains in hospital while his son Logan has now been allowed home.

The Volkswagen Golf private hire taxi failed to stop after the crash on Glasgow Road but the driver was traced a short time later. No one has been arrested or charged in connection with the incident.

A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed on Tuesday that inquiries are ongoing.

Sergeant Craig McDonald from the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Motherwell said: "Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the exact circumstances of this incident and we want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed what happened."
