A haul of prescription drugs including morphine has been stolen during a raid at a pharmacy.

Police have now issued a warning to the public after the pharmacy in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, was broken into in the early hours of Tuesday.

A "substantial quantity" of drugs were taken from Mint Pharmacy on Calder Street in Whifflet. The theft took place in the early hours of the morning.

The following drugs were stolen: fentanyl, oxycodone, tapentadol, morphine, methylphenidate, temazepam, suboxin, daclatasvir and sofosbuvir.

Inspector Louise Brownlie, of Coatbridge Police Office, said: "These drugs, if taken without strict medical supervision, could have potentially fatal consequences. I would like to speak to anyone who has been offered these drugs, or may know of their whereabouts.

“Inquiries are ongoing into the theft and anyone with information that may assist police inquiries should contact Coatbridge Police Office on 101."
