Police searching for for a man who disappeared from a pub will focus their efforts on rural walkways and forest paths over the weekend.

William Miller, known as Billy, was last seen on Main Street in Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, at about 12.20am on Thursday, January 7.

Police Scotland has urged hillwalkers and dog walkers in West Dunbartonshire to keep an eye out for the 62-year-old as he enjoys visiting landmarks in the area.

Mr Miller has now been missing for more than two weeks. Over the weekend a dedicated team of officers will search for him in key areas including Auchincarroch Road and surrounding forest walks, the woodlands north of Alexandria and around the banks of the River Leven.

Earlier in the week Mr Miller's family made an emotional appeal for his safe return.

His niece Eva McGregor said at a press conference: "It is very out of character for him not to return home and for us not to have heard from him for this length of time. We are asking for anyone who has any information or thinks they have seen him to get in touch with the police by phoning 101.

"Uncle Billy, if you see this, we need you to know that me, my mum and dad, nana, Logan, and Ben all love and miss you, we need to know that you are safe and we want you to come home."

He is described as being around 6ft tall and of medium build. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue and grey T-shirt, and a black hooded water proof jacket with a "Douglas Park" logo.

He was carrying a small black rucksack with light blue panels and he wears a white-faced analogue watch with a brown leather strap. Mr Miller, who stays in the Balfron area in Stirlingshire, does not drive and regularly uses public transport.

Mr Miller was also spotted on CCTV at Tesco in Milngavie at around 1.15pm on the Wednesday he went missing.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts has been asked to contact Dumbarton police office on 101.
