Murder detectives hunting a killer who stabbed a young man in the street are following "a positive line of inquiry".

Jamie Johnstone, 21, was found dying outside a Glasgow flat on Saturday after suffering knife wounds during a disturbance.

Police were called to Balbeggie Street in the Sandyhills area of the city around 6pm and found Mr Johnstone in the street. He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he died.

A full murder inquiry was launched by police hunting the killer and officers appealed to the public for help.

STV understands police are now following a positive line of inquiry as part of the investigation.

Officers carried out door-to-door enquiries in the area and are also gathered CCTV footage. Enquiries indicate that several people were in the nearby area at the time of the incident, entering and exiting the high rise flats.

Detective inspector Mark Bell said: "We are in the process of piecing together what has happened to this young man. Given his injuries we know he has been attacked but at this stage, we don’t know why.

"I am appealing to people who live in the area, particularly the high rise flats, to contact us with any information they may have. It’s possible someone heard or saw a disturbance and the information could prove vital in assisting our enquiries in tracing whoever is responsible for this young man’s death."

Anyone with any information is asked to call officers at the Major Investigation Team at Helen Street Police Office on 101. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111where information can be given anonymously.
