Hollywood actor Richard Gere is to attend this year's Glasgow Film Festival (GFF), which has revealed one of its biggest-ever programmes.

The Pretty Woman star will attend the UK premiere of his latest film Time Out Of Mind on February 28, in which he plays a homeless man in New York.

Other confirmed stars attending the festival between February 17 and 28 include Game Of Thrones actor Natalie Dormer, director Ben Wheatley and veteran stuntman Vic Armstrong.

The festival will host more than 300 events and screenings, starting with the UK premiere of the Coen brothers' Hail, Caesar! and closing with a showing of Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson's Oscar-nominated Anomalisa.

Although the programme was finalised before his death, there will be a chance for audiences to remember David Bowie with a screening of The Man Who Fell To Earth at Glasgow Planetarium, as well as a showing of the concert film of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars and the documentary short Let's Dance: Bowie Down Under, which follows the star in the early 1980s.

GFF traditionally contains a retrospective of films by a particular movie star but organisers have decided to highlight classic Hollywood partnerships in 2016.

The Dream Teams on the Silver Screen strand will show the work of double acts like Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, Doris Day and Rock Hudson, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, and Robert Redford and Paul Newman. Unique venues around Glasgow continue to be utilised by the festival with screenings to take place at Kelvingrove Art Gallery, BBC Scotland's Pacific Quay and the Grand Ole Opry.

GFF also announced a masked ball to be held in the city's Trades Hall before a showing of Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet while audiences will be transported on a "prison bus" in regulation orange jumpsuits and taken to a secret location for a special screening of Con Air.

Festival co-director Allison Gardner said: "The festival keeps moving forward, with new developments like our Industry Focus conference, whilst also maintaining our roots as an audience-focused festival where everyone can come together to share a love of cinema.

"We've been around for a few years now, so look out for some extra-special movie anniversaries in the programme."

The 2015 festival was praised as the "best ever", with audience figures at more than 40,000 for a second year.

Stars who have attended the festival in recent years include the late Alan Rickman, Richard Dreyfuss, Gemma Arterton, Armando Iannucci and Richard Ayoade.

Co-director Allan Hunter said: "The 2016 Glasgow Film Festival programme is bursting with must-see movies and events.

"I'm excited to introduce audiences to real gems like Pablo Trapero's gripping crime drama The Clan in our Argentine focus, Zhang Yang's breathtaking Tibetan film Paths Of The Soul and a cracking line-up of Audience Award contenders including the unforgettable, Oscar-nominated Mustang."
