An elderly pedestrian who died after being knocked down by a car as he crossed the road has been named by police.

James Figgans, 75, was crossing the road at Charles Avenue, Renfrew, on Sunday January 10 when he was struck by a Peugeot 406 car.

Emergency services attended and the Mr Figgans was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, however on Friday January 15, he died. The driver of the car was not injured.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "The deceased can be named as James Figgans from Renfrew. The 67-year-old driver of the Peugeot car was uninjured.

"Officers from Paisley’s Road Policing Unit are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have any information to contact them at Paisley Police Office on the non-emergency number 101."
