Three people have been taken to hospital after six cars were involved in a smash on the M77.

The crash happened at around 8.50am on the northbound carriageway of the motorway in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene, near the Eaglesham cut-off, and three people were taken to hospital.

Rush-hour delays were sparked while the cars involved were moved to the hard shoulder. It is understood those taken to hospital were not seriously injured.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Police were called around 8.50am on Monday to a report of a road crash involving a number of cars on the M77 J5 northbound.

"Cars were moved to hard shoulder. Ambulance crews attended and three people were taken to hospital where they are being checked over."
