The youngster was crossing a road in the south side of Glasgow on Thursday afternoon when he was struck by a Renault Trafic van.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Langside Drive, near its junction with Monreith Road, in the city's Newlands area at around 4pm.

The boy was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he is being treated for a head injury. Hospital staff described his condition as critical but stable. The driver of the van was uninjured.

Sergeant Jackie Dunbar said: "Inquiries are continuing into the cause of the crash and I would urge anyone who witnessed it take place, or who has information that may assist this investigation to contact Police Scotland on 101."
