Further warnings for rain and snow have been issued by the Met Office for areas in the west of Scotland.

Heavy rain and snow is expected on Sunday afternoon and evening which could cause flooding and disruption to travel.

The Met Office issued a yellow "be aware" warning for much of the the Strathclyde region, Ayrshire and parts of central Scotland.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (Sepa) also issued a flood alert for west central Scotland, in addition to flood warnings which remain in place for parts of the Aberdeenshire and Tayside regions.

The warnings come as some towns in the north east are cleaning up after heavy flooding during the week, which saw dozens of homes evacuated.

Describing its latest warning, the Met Office said: "Outbreaks of rain will continue this afternoon, persistent and also heavy at times, before clearing away this evening.

"There will also be some snow at times on higher ground, with accumulations of 2cm to 5 cm on ground above about 200m to 300m.

"Please be aware of locally difficult travel conditions, either due to surface water flooding, or due to snow on some of the higher routes."

Severe gales have also been forecast for Orkney and Shetland and the Highlands region, with winds of up to 70mph possible. The Met Office warned conditions would be worsened by rain and hill snow.
