A search is under way for a man whose disappearance is said to be "out of character."

William Miller, 62, was last seen in Main Street in Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, around 12.20am on Thursday.

Mr Miller, who stays in Balfron, also visits Minlgavie and uses public transport regularly, police said. He is described as being 5ft 10in to 6ft tall and of medium build.

When last seen he was wearing blue jeans, a blue and grey T-shirt, a black waterproof jacket with a "Douglas Park" logo on left breast and was carrying a black small rucksack. He usually wears a white faced analogue watch with a brown leather strap.

Sergeant Andy McGarvey, from Dumbarton police office, said: "William going missing is out of character. We know that he was in the Milngavie area on January 6, before travelling to Alexandria but we don't know what his intentions were after that.

"We are currently making enquiries in these areas and I urge anyone who knows of William's present whereabouts or anyone who has seen him in the last couple of days to contact Dumbarton police office via 101."
