A five-car crash on one of Scotland's busiest motorways sparked travel disruption for drivers during rush hour.

The crash happened at 7.45am on Thursday on a stretch of the M77 in Ayrshire and caused delays throughout the morning.

Emergency services were called to the motorway at junction 7 between Fenwick and Kingswell. Ambulance crews attended but it is believed no one was seriously hurt.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Around 7.45am police and emergency services responded to reports of a five vehicle crash on the M77 approximately half a mile north of Fenwick.

"Paramedics attended but it is understood there were no serious injuries. The road was fully closed for a short period of time to allow for the removal of vehicles.

"One lane remains closed should be reopened shortly. Delays should be expected.
