A weather warning for heavy rain has been issued across central Scotland.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning coming into force at 2pm on Tuesday and lasting until 9pm.

Glasgow, Stirling and Perth are all covered by the alert.

The forecaster has warned of potential flooding and disruption to bus and train services.

The heaviest showers may be accompanied by thunder, but rain showers are expected to steadily fade through the evening.

It comes after some parts of the country experienced heavy rain and thunderstorms last week, after days of hot weather.

“Following rain overnight and this morning, which could be heavy at times, showers are expected to break out this afternoon which are likely to be slow-moving”, the Met Office said.

“A few places could see 20mm in an hour, and there is a chance that the odd location could see 30-40mm in 2-3 hours. This may lead to some localised flooding and travel disruption across parts of central Scotland.”
