We’re now two weeks into meteorological summer, and so far it’s not been too bad for most of the country.
It’s been so good that lots of our Mini Mets in Shetland have even had their paddling pools out!
But remember, it’s around now that our schools would be breaking up for summer, and that’s normally where it all starts to go wrong – maybe those thunderstorms in Ayrshire, and that funnel cloud spotted in Kilmarnock yesterday were a precursor of what’s to come.
Oh, I just heard that sigh from here, but don’t worry, let’s just keep our fingers crossed it’s not!
Now, I’m the one that normally tells you what to expect, but this time I’m handing it over to you for a guess at our summer highs.
I want you to have a guess at this summer’s high for Scotland as a whole, Edinburgh and Shetland. Will you go for a record-breaking summer scorcher or a bit of a damp summer squib?
My guesses are 31.4C for Scotland, 30.3C for Edinburgh and 21.2C for Shetland, which might give you a bit of a steer, but hey, what do I know?!
This is even guess work for meteorologists, as we only forecast trends for seasons, not specifics.
I know, you’re shocked by that, because there’s some places you can go already that give you a forecast for that BBQ you’ve got planned in September, or the weather for this year’s Halloween guising, but trust me, they’re pointless.
So, summer 2020, it’s over to you…
