Scotland will be battered by more strong winds on Monday night into Tuesday in the wake of Storm Boelo.

A man was killed and two women were injured by falling trees after gusts of up to 84mph hit over the weekend.

Two men and a woman have died in road crashes during the storm. More than 20,000 homes remained without power on Monday afternoon as major recovery and clean-up operations continued.

Storm Boelo was the second name storm of the season, following Storm Austen.

Weather models over the weekend prompted the possibility of whether Scotland could have its third named storm of the season within the space of five days.

Early models suggested a low pressure system arriving overnight on Monday would bring further devastating winds across Scotland.

However, the Met Office has decided not to name it as Storm Chloe.

Despite the fact that there is still a lot of debris, branches and weakened trees across the country caused by Storm Boelo, the forecast impacts from the low pressure system don’t warrant the naming of the storm, even though it will still bring extremely strong winds, with gusts of up to 70mph in exposed coastal parts.

The Met Office has issued weather warnings for the strong winds, lasting until 9pm on Tuesday, with winds easing throughout the night and into Wednesday.

By Wednesday, things turn calmer and more settled, with things looking a lot less stormy for the Hallowe’en weekend.

Even though the low pressure system on Tuesday hasn’t been named as a storm, people are still advised to take care heading out and watch for falling branches and trees, debris on roads and the risk of travel disruption.
