WWII veteran celebrates 100th birthday ahead of VE Day

George Simpson's family organised a surprise party for his special day.

A World War Two veteran has turned 100 years old the day before VE Day.

George Simpson, from Midlothian, was surprised by his family who gathered outside his house to celebrate him in style.

They sang happy birthday and arranged for a pipe band to march down his street.

Despite the lockdown restrictions, George looked happy to celebrate his special day with loved ones despite the physical distance between them.
