WW2 veteran celebrates 100th birthday with surprise party

Harry Gamper celebrated with his family, a piper and a special letter from the Queen.

A war hero and care home resident was surprised on the day of his 100th birthday with a small party.

Harry Gamper celebrated his special day with a piper, a cake and a letter from the Queen.

Carina McLauchlan, the general manager of Malin Court, told STV News: “We organised an afternoon tea for all the residents, held in the main dining room.

“In addition, a piper and drummer followed by two members from the RAFA Ayr and Prestwick marched down the drive in front of the Restaurant window and a large cake was presented along with the letter from HRH the Queen.”

This heart-warming video shows the moment Harry opened the letter from the Queen, blew his many candles on the cake and gave a few cheeky tips on how to live a long and happy life.
