RNLI rescue windsurfer in Firth of Forth during Storm Dennis

The man's mast had broken and was drifting off shore when the RNLI arrived and rescued him.

A windsurfer had to be rescued near Gullane, East Lothian after venturing out in high winds during Storm Dennis.

The man was drifting off shore in winds up to 45 mph after his mast broke when North Berwick RNLI came to his aid.

The man’s was located, checked out and returned to North Berwick.

Rhona Meikle, volunteer lifeboat press officer, said: “We would encourage all water users to wear lifejackets and have at least one way of contacting help.

“If they can have someone watching from the shore even better.”
