NHS workers applaud as grandad with coronavirus leaves ICU

Pete Mitchell spent ten days receiving treatment in ICU after testing positive for Covid-19.

A grandad with coronavirus received an applause from NHS staff as he was wheeled out of intensive care following ten days of treatment.

Pete Mitchell was captured on video waving to medics at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh as he was taken into the hospital’s high dependency unit after spending more than a week in the intensive care unit (ICU) with Covid-19.

In a tweet, the critical care unit at the hospital wrote: “Ten days within ICU and we are delighted to be able to move our amazing patient to HDU. #Happydays#teamwork@NHS_Lothian

Pete’s wife Eileen thanked frontline staff, writing on Twitter: “You’re all miracle workers and my heroes.”
