Librarian records Bookbug video on nightshift gritting streets

Susannah Leake didn't want her toddler group to miss out while she was working her seasonal job for the council.

A dedicated librarian recorded a Bookbug song for toddlers during her nightshift gritting the streets.

Susannah Leake has a job in learning development at Edinburgh’s Moredun library, however the 29-year-old also serves her local community as an emergency seasonal worker for the council.

Ms Leake knew she couldn’t make it to the live Bookbug on Tuesday morning due to longer shifts this week amid the severe weather.

She was determined her group wouldn’t miss out on the session which she has managed to run every week online since last March while working two jobs.

She decided to record a version of ‘Wheels on the Bus’ with lyrics about gritters while her NT74 spreader vehicle flashed in the background.

Ms Leake told STV News: “I decided while we’re out and while it was really nice and snowy, that I could just maybe jump out of the tractor and sing a couple of songs.

“It was pretty cold but I managed to kind of get through a few songs and change a couple of the lyrics so that the gritter fitted in.

“I shared it the next morning and it seems to have been a big hit with lots and lots of children and lots of big children too.”
