Francie Conn began to experience flu-like symptoms at the end of March.
The 65-year-old, who had no underlying health issues, was told to isolate for seven days at home, but became progressively worse.
He ended up in a coma and spent 35 days on a ventilator at Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock.
Last week he left intensive care to continue his recovery.
